Welcome Back – Repurposed Clubhouse Bar Installed
When the Clubhouse closed in 2008 for a year of renovation the bar was a beautiful and rare Koa slab. As the reno budget tightened with unforeseen added costs, two members took on the project of renovating the bar area themselves. Bob Horcajo and John Hoxie went to fellow member, Robbie VonTempsky’s Ulupalakua millyard and selected a beautiful Mango slab for the new bar, and John decided he would make a large coffee table from the old Koa bar. When the Clubhouse re-opened the members were very proud to know and tell the story of these two new additions.
In 2017, during the upgrade to the restaurant, the House committee led by Tom Glesne once again went in search of the perfect wood. They replaced the bar with a rich Earpod repurposed from the trees along Pu’unene Avenue. The Mango slab was kept safe for master artisan craftsman Stephen Hynson, and the House committee determined it would become a new countertop for the lounge.

Mahalo to members Tom Glesne and Stephen Hynson for the beautiful “new” mango wood counter in the Lounge
The countertop is dedicated in honor of member John Hoxie; and sits very near to his beautiful Koa table set between the sofas. Mahalo to all the members who have cared so lovingly for the Club and given so generously their time and talent.
thank you for honoring my Dad – the club was definitely one of his favorite places to be
