The renovation of all the forward tees by D.H.R. Construction is complete, and the women golfers at Maui Country Club couldn’t be happier! “It is well worth the wait for the new planting to take root,” said Women’s Division President and former Pro Shop Manager Dot Tam Ho.
The improvements will certainly be noticed by participants in Maui’s iconic women’s golf competitions. The 83rd annual Josh Jerman Maui Women’s Golf Championship, and the 43-year Hamai Memorial Ladies Golf Tournament are hosted annually by the Women’s Golf Division at Maui Country Club.
Following the upward industry trend of women taking up the sport, the Club’s Golf Committee planned and allocated budget to improve the golf experience for the ladies this year. The camaraderie and social aspect of golf is well suited to women and the Club’s 9-hole course is perfect for learning the game. Club Pro Mark Shimamura is a patient and encouraging teacher, and offers members a free golf clinic every month in addition to one-on-one lessons.
Golf Course Superintendent Ozzy Cardenas with Club member & D.H.R. President Danny Ramos supervised the project that doubled the playing area of the nine ladies’ tees. The improvement project was timed to take advantage of the beginning of the long growing season ahead; and could not have happened without the kokua of resources & manpower from D.H.R. whose work is “the best in the business,” according to Cardenas. A warm “Mahalo nui loa” to Danny and the D.H.R. crew from the Golf Course team, Committee, and all the golfing Members.
