Jump Back / Jump Through Workshop with Matt Goldhill
Thursday, March 23 @ 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
In the traditional Ashtanga Yoga method, jump backs and jump throughs are an integral part of the practice. They are also commonly found in a lot of vinyasa style classes, due to their many benefits. There are many reasons why we do all of this jumping, and it imparts many benefits upon the practitioner:
– builds strength (arms, core, pelvic floor)
– helps reset the body after each pose
– builds and maintains heat in the body
– helps move lymphatic fluids to flush out toxins
– creates a flow between every pose
– enhances the meditative quality of the practice
Many students roll their eyes or laugh in frustration when they are told to jump back and jump through for the next pose, as they are one of the hardest aspects of the yoga practice to perform. In this workshop, we will go over different methods of jumping, learn how to use our bandhas, work on ways to build strength for jumping, and have fun!

About Matt Goldhill
Matt fell in love with yoga while living in New York City and he knew early on that he had found a lifelong practice. As he deepened his studies, the many life-changing benefits of yoga continued to bring him to the mat every day. After studying several different styles with many great teachers, Matt found Ashtanga Yoga and has maintained a daily practice in the lineage ever since. The Ashtanga Yoga method strongly influences his teaching style, whether teaching classes or clients in the traditional manner, or using its principles in order to teach a more individualized and accessible form of yoga. Sharing his love and passion for the practice with others has been incredibly rewarding and fulfilling for Matt. He offers many thanks and to all of his teachers for their transmission of the teachings, and is humbled by their steady guidance and unwavering support. Matt is grateful to call the North Shore of Maui his home while assisting MCC’s Yoga Instructor Sammy Seriani at the Club.
Although Maui Country Club is private, this class is open to non-member guests and limited to access in the Ballroom exclusively. For information on joining the Club, visit the membership pages of this site.
